Once you hit the level 20 cap and want to progress further, that F2P account must purchase every expansion, which is a huge expense, and then subscribe. Blizzard is riding the F2P marketing buzzword wave to try and bring in more subscribers. I'll probably never subscribe to that game again either.Īs for WoW, it's another limited trial. I still think the game is occasionally a little bit of fun solo, but I would never play it full time or gimp a group as a F2P player. You can unlock classes and rent instance time (at an exorbitant price), but you cannot unlock inventory space or AA progression. There is no AA progression while F2P, storage and inventory are halved, many instances are unavailable, and 8 of the 12 classes are locked. If you really want to play full on AoC you need to subscribe. It's more of a F2P trial with unlimited leveling. Funcom is using the F2P marketing buzzwords, but it isn't truly a F2P game. It is in fact in the very same vein, only even more restrictive, than SoE's model with EQ2. At least AoC and CoH are following the turbine model and not Sony's bizzare EQ2 thing.įuncom's model with AoC is nothing like Turbine's model with LotRO and DDO.
